Beautiful people in beautiful places
Ok, as a great fan of lists I need to make a list of my goals for the semester in Hungary.
(A pic of my alma mater to look at during long cold Hungarian evenings)
- To meet people of other cultures. Experience of my university shows that foreing students keep detached if s/he has come alone, or keep in a group if they are many, and communicate mostly with students of their nationality. Of course, I can see the reasons! But it's a one-in-a-lifetime chanсe, it's worth trying not to screw it up and not to cocoon made of Russian students:)
- To test my ability to withstand troubles and difficulties. It's transparent that there will be quite a few of them. Even taking into consideration the fact that I live on my own for five (O.M.G) years it's going to be tough - strating all it over with a new person in a new country. Especially when you know zero words in Hungarian ahaha (gotta work on it). My friend Catherine who is now studying in Great Britain said that culture shock is a real (and overwhelming) thing so you shouldn't underestimate it (as I do).
- To have a look at a lot of beautiful places that are unfamiliar to my eye. For example, new landscapes and new architectural styles. Of course, I'm going to visit Budapest. It is my first trip abroad and I'm sure that Europe will live up to my expectations! I also secretely hope to save enough money to visit the country of my dream - Italy - whose language I'm learning right now.
- To find a topic for master thesis. Sounds nerdy, right? As my motivation letter reads "At the present moment I am at the crossroads because my old topic seems to be a closed book to me. I hope that a semester at the University of Pecs will give a boost to my scholarly activity." Really, everyone knows that it's quite a challenge to find a new topic for anything (not to speak of a huge scholarly work). By the way, they've got 'Varieties of English' course, isn't that great?!
- To study at a university with a long history. I was immensly glad when I learned that the University of Pecs was founded in 1367 (the first university of Hungary and one of the oldest universities of Central Europe, Wikipedia says). I'm getting closer to studying (or pretending that I'm studying) at Hogwarts every minute!
- To be more active than I am here. Ok, that's a self-deceiving one, I understand. But new circumstances sometimes change our track of mind considerably. You just can't stay inactive when everything around you differs so much from what you got used to!
